Position Description
Part-time Instructor for Citizenship Preparation Class
Pay Rate: $50.63 (credentialed)
Approximately 7 hours a week

Definition:
Under the direction of the English as a Second Language Coordinator, the instructor will plan, carry out, evaluate and
supervise instructional activities to enable students to pass the U.S. citizenship examination and INS interview. Instruction
includes a background in U.S. history and a basic understanding of the structure of the U.S. government and awareness
of their civic potential to be a part of the political process. Additionally, instructors will deliver a curriculum that enables
listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in English to help prepare adult students for the naturalization process.
Duties include:
- Minimal Prep. (pacing guides, lesson planners, and student materials will be provided), support staff available
- Create a welcoming environment appropriate for adult students
- Establish good rapport with students, ESL program teachers, and support staff
- Employ student persistence strategies as outlined by the department
- Adhere to lesson plans and pacing guides for assigned curriculum
- Employ a variety of appropriate instructional methods including, but not limited to, differentiated instruction and collaborative group activities to build community
- Follow appropriate instructional practices and classroom procedures
- Work with program team to develop and upgrade these practices through individual, department and school-wide
- trainings, meetings and Professional Learning Communities (PLCs)
- Support standardized testing such as: CASAS and English Literacy Civics testing
- Maintain student records and submit necessary paperwork in a timely manner
- Become CASAS CIT Certified
- Education and Experience (CA Teaching Credential Required):
- Adult Education Credential with an ESL designation (DSAE Credential)
OR
K-12 Credential:
● Option A - Multiple Subject Credential OR
● Option B - Designated Subject (Single Subject) Credential with authorization to teach ESL and
12 hours of upper division credits in English, Languages or Communications.
Preferred: CLAD; TESOL or TEFL Certificates; specialized training or certificate
Term:
April 2024 - June 2024 & August 2024 - June 2025. Position is temporary and subject to cancellation.
Hours: Between 5 to 7 hours a week.
In Person Teaching and Location:
● Napa Valley Adult Education Main Campus 1600 Lincoln Ave: 2 days a week (W/TH) from 6:00-8:30 pm
