Our community needs qualified employees in a variety of fields such as: the wine industry, healthcare, schools, government, hospitality and tourism, along with small businesses. We have redesigned the program to help you prepare for entry-level positions, with additional classes for career advancement. Start with Foundations of BIW or take Essentials of BIW and prepare for advanced positions.

Completion of Orientation is required prior to final registration.

All students who register for these classes will take a reading assessment/test. The assessments will be sent out virtually via email on Wednesday, August 5, 2024. Look for an email from “Casas” or “Etests.” You will have 24 hours to complete the assessment from when you receive your email invitation. This assessment can be taken on a computer, chromebook, tablet or smartphone. Once you have completed your assessment, we will contact you in 48 regarding enrollment.

Class Description Foundations Essentials
Introduction to Computers Learn about the operating system, basic functions, using the internet,  search engines, and computer safety.
Google Apps Learn about Google Drive, Gmail, Google Calendar, Docs, Slides, Sheets, and forms.  Manage files, create documents, spreadsheets, forms, and presentations.
Keyboarding, Filing, & Lab Learn keyboarding basics: increase speed and accuracy. Learn and improve alphabetic and numeric filing skills: organization of paper and electronic records.
Microsoft Word 1 Learn to create and edit professional documents, flyers, and reports. Develop and insert tables and columns, and  learn to apply formatting, fonts, styles, and color.
Microsoft Excel 1 Learn to create spreadsheets, apply formatting, and create labels. Progress to creating and editing formulas. Apply  themes and work with borders and fonts.   
Microsoft PowerPoint 1 Learn to create presentations, insert text, images, shapes, text boxes, and placeholders. Apply themes, color, transitions, and sound effects.   
Microsoft Outlook 1 Learn how to manage emails, schedule appointments and reminders, create and manage tasks and customize Outlook.  
Resume Writing & Interviewing Skills Learn how to market yourself effectively to get the job you want. Develop the ability to showcase your experience and competencies in a professional resume and cover letter.
